Teams of Liverymen drawn from 13 different livery companies gathered at Bisley Camp on 5 June to compete for The Bakers’ Cup. Competitors were faced with the challenge of shooting four different disciplines: 7.62 Target Rifle at 1000 yards, 7.62 Sniper Rifle at 300 yards, Black powder pistol at 25 metres, and .22 Gallery Rifle at 25 and 50 metres. The Gunmakers’ team, comprising Derek Stimpson, David Cooper and Richard Black, particularly excelled with the sniper rifle, and were the overall winners with a combined score of 1501 (ex 1800). Derek Stimpson produced the second highest individual score of the day.
The event, now in its second year, is organised by the Bakers’ Company in partnership with the RAF Target Rifle Club and has already helped to raise almost £15,000 for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
RAF Benevolent Fund Controller Chris Nickols, seen below presenting the trophy to the Gunmakers’ team, said: “The Bisley Shoot is a fantastic event which combines a love of target shooting with support for our Charity. Fundraisers like this are essential for the Benevolent Fund to be able to continue our work supporting every member of the RAF family in their time of need.”
